VIMOCITY COACH HIGHLIGHT: SEAN CORNELL
Our Vimocity coaches are on-site and hands on with our clients at different locations every week. They provide education, skill instruction and motivation to each and every one of the employees participating in Vimocity programs.
This week, we sat down with Vimocity’s first-ever coach, Sean Cornell and asked him some serious questions about Vimocity (and some fun questions about himself too!).
As a certified personal trainer, Sean plays an active role in helping clients reach their health goals by providing education and instruction around healthy movement patterns. He believes that lifestyle changes are best achieved by fostering engagement and motivating clients to invest in their health.
Name: Sean Cornell
Age: 27
Job Title: Senior Performance Manager
Hometown: Seattle, WA
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF THE JOB?
My favorite part of my role with Vimocity is the onsite interaction with clients. I love to share new information with people that often times lead to an increased quality of life. To be able to see how quick people are able to make change and how that can begin to impact their entire life is incredibly rewarding.
HOW DO YOU FEEL LIKE YOU MAKE AN IMPACT IN PEOPLE’S LIVES THROUGH VIMOCITY?
Empowering people to take care of their bodies through education and belief that they can be successful. A lot of health related topics can be incredibly boring, but I feel like I am able to spice things up, make it understandable as well as fun!
BEST MOMENT ON THE JOB?
Hard to distill this to one particular moment but the top moments all relate to meeting someone who was substantially limited due to pain/discomfort during our first interaction and during the 6-8 week follow-up, they become pain free, vibrant with energy, and tell me how what we’ve helped them accomplish has impacted not only them but their loved ones as well.
MOST CHALLENGING PART OF YOUR JOB?
Helping people create the habit of regular movement preparation. People are very excited to begin the process, however when initial motivation wears off, the habit can be easy to slip up on. This is true for ALL habits.
Helping people align their desires and actions is something I am always striving to get better at!
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO AFTER WORK?
Pretty much anything outdoors in the Pacific Northwest! I love hiking, trail running, mountain biking, rock climbing, and recently got into Mountaineering. Being out in nature seems to recharge my body and mind. Being from Washington my entire life I always thought I wanted to move to another State (somewhere Sunny more than 3-months/year!). However the more outdoor activities I have experimented with, the more I enjoy the PNW and the more I can see myself living here long term.
FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN SEATTLE?
Cactus, Kirkland
Great vibe during the summertime, good food, and obviously chips & salsa 🙂
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE BOOK YOU’VE READ RECENTLY? WHY?
Extreme Ownership – Jocko Willink
It is easy to place blame onto others when things are not going the way we plan. However when we do this, we take away OUR opportunity to change the situation. By taking responsibility ourselves, it puts us into a place to problem solve, learn from the mistake, and grow as a leader. This concept was incredibly empowering for me to learn and is something I try to aspire towards everyday.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PODCAST YOU’VE LISTENED TO RECENTLY?
How I Built This – NPR
Many major brands that we all know and love were started by people just like you and me. Most of these people were not handed a Silver Spoon and worked their tails off to get to where they are today. This really appeals to me because I want to help Vimocity become a Global Brand and if they can do it, so can we!
BEST ROLE MODEL IN YOUR LIFE?
Elon Musk
The accomplishments this man has made over the last several decades is absolutely mind blowing. He is radically changing this planet with major advances in electric vehicles, autonomous driving, solar energy, and high speed transportation. Many of the things he has come out with recently seem like a science fiction movie to me, however he is showing that if you can dream it, you can build it. I love that! Also, one of the guiding goals in my life is to leave this planet better off than when I started, he is most certainly living by a similar standard.
IF YOU COULD HAVE DINNER WITH ONE PERSON (DEAD OR ALIVE), WHO WOULD IT BE? WHY?
Tony Robbins
One of the things I am most curious about is what makes people tick. What causes us to do the things we do, even at times that go against our best interest. Tony Robbins in my eyes is the master of Change Psychology and has accomplished so much in terms of improving the lives of others. The improvements I have personally seen him help people with in 10-minutes is extraordinary, I can only imagine what we could accomplish in the span of a dinner! I could then use what I learned to help those that I work with everyday at a much higher level.
FINAL QUESTION! HIGHLIGHT OF THE YEAR?
Technically last year (Christmas Day) when I got engaged to the woman of my dreams! Kristin and I have been together for the past 5 years and are excited to tie the knot on November 18th of this year!
Meet Sean in person at a workshop at your workplace! Plus, our coaches can always be reached at coach@vimocity.com.
